Re:Wayne Raney Date Posted:02/25/2020 9:28 PMCopy HTML WCKY is the one I remember. I think there was another.one too.Wcky was where you could get the baby chicks and always mentioned brother silas at the upright piano,I think. Back then there was also WLAC at Nashville that played country late at night then would switch to R&B later in the night. Randy's record shop in Gallatin Tn,the world's largest mail order shop? Advertised on there. I think there was another one in Ohio or Ky that had something to do with someone named Wilson. No I checked and LB Wison was the founder of WCKY |

Re:Wayne Raney Date Posted:02/25/2020 10:57 PMCopy HTML I used to listen to WCKY out of Cincinnati , could get it in the winter time , on a cold clear night the stations came in so clear . Great memories , I would take the little radio to bed with me and listen to some great country music most of the night . ♫ I Love Good Old Country Music ♫

Re:Wayne Raney Date Posted:02/26/2020 3:05 AMCopy HTML I guess most of us stayed up most of the night listening to WCKY, Gary also probably.I didn't have a transistor radio.. I had a Philco table model which I attached a wire to and ran it to my window screen. Made a great antenna. Later at work for bell in the manholes ,we always had our radios. They were 9volts Some of out test equipment used a small 4 1/2 volts battery. We would take 2 and wire them in series. They would last a long long time. Sometimes we just had one for all 3 shifts and it would play without being turned off.24 hr a day and ever how many days we were working anywhere 5 to mabe 13 days with out being turned off .Wired that way the voltage would be doubled and the Amps would stay the same . If You gals had transistor radios, you can thank Bell for that. They were invented by Bell Labs {transistors that is) |

Re:Wayne Raney Date Posted:02/26/2020 9:43 PMCopy HTML my transistor radio was an RCA Victor and it took 4 D- cell batteries .. they weren't so tiny in the first years. In the early 60's my brother was driving truck down to Milwaukee to the frieght depot to pick up damaged furniture for a resale shop in town. There was no radio in the truck he drove and asked if he could use my radio, about the second or third trip, somebody stole the radio. I was heartbroken, I loved that little radio

Re:Wayne Raney Date Posted:02/27/2020 12:46 AMCopy HTML For years our trucks at bell never had radios. We had to have a radio of our own. They were very safe minded. No distraction while driving.. Took a defensive driving course when you started and every five years after that. Also no heaters in the trucks. There was some real cool days. Then the Gov. said all vehicles had to have a defroster so from then on they all had heaters. I don't think the colder states in Southern Bell AKA Bell South later even had them No sitting around in a nice warm truck when you was supose to be working.. I never had an AC either in the almost 38 years I worked there. That would have been nice. Sometimes you might have one of those little fans. Guys would sometimes hook one up their selves if their truck didn't have one. No auto transmissions either because the new hires couldn't drive straight sticks and they had to start getting automatics. |

Re:Wayne Raney Date Posted:02/27/2020 11:57 PMCopy HTML Love the stories brings back some old memories for me . The radio I used was the one my folks had on a shelf in the kitchen , it was an RCA in a wooden box , small enough that I would unplug it and take it very carefully in my bedroom, when everyone was in bed . I remember that I thought I was fooling everyone , that they didn't know I was taking that radio , lol , they had to hear the music and static that was on it , sometime between 2 and 3 o'clock I would return it to its rightful place . ♫ I Love Good Old Country Music ♫

Re:Wayne Raney Date Posted:02/28/2020 3:44 AMCopy HTML LOL Bug, isn't that thinking just like a kid. I would laugh at some of the excuses my kids would use to try to dig themselves out of trouble. It would make me think back to my Mama, I thought I had her fooled too, and I was # 10 kid out of 12 .... she must have heard every story in the book.
